OPENINGS IN THE DETROIT, MICHIGAN AREA
LEAD RESEARCH SCIENTIST/ENGINEER, JOB ID 1069
Immediate opening for talented scientist or engineer to lead challenging and interesting scientific research project. Successful candidate will be U.S. Citizen, have at least an M.S. and a strong math, probability, and statistics background. Professional experience with experimental design and analysis, an understanding of Hidden Markov Models, a working familiarity with Matlab (or equivalent computational environment) and good communication skills are required. Computer programming skills and familiarity with computer graphic architectures are desirable but not a must.
The objective of the research is to develop and evaluate algorithms for correcting the systematic point-of-regard (POR) error found in the eye position data produced by modern eye-tracking hardware. The core idea is the registration of graphical realities to the POR data. This registration enables the use of application-specific, contextual information to correct systematic eye sensor error in static and dynamic displays. The algorithms being developed will detect operator behavior patterns by comparing expected application patterns to observed eye movement data. The detected patterns will establish confident fixation locations (CFLs). The CFLs will provide the basis for the removal of systematic POR error.
A successful outcome is expected to produce a number of worthwhile benefits. In the military sector it will lead to a wider application of eye-tracking technology for modeling, training, and measuring subject performance. In the commercial sector it will lead to widespread use of eye tracking in such products as computer games, educational software, and performance evaluation tools.
